Equality objectives

Benjamin Adlard Primary School is committed to developing policies and practice that raise attainment for all children and close the gap between those facing disadvantage and their peers. Under the Equality Act 2010 we have a legal duty to publish information to demonstrate compliance with Public Sector Equality Duty of that Act.

As a school we recognise our general and specific duties having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
  • Foster good relations between people of all characteristics.

These duties extend to all members of our school, and specific regard needs to be given to those who have protected characteristics - race, disability, sex, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity and gender reassignment.

Equality objectives

As a school our equality objectives are:

  • Considering equality as we develop policy and acting on those considerations.
  • Being conscious of the need for our policy to be informed by equality evidence, collecting that evidence, and using it.
  • Improving our practice in promoting equality, and engaging with our local, national and international communities.

Much of the information and analysis will relate to the School Development Plan, evaluations and pupil data – we intend to use the information to improve education for all groups in the school. We want to make sure we know which pupils are doing well and less well, so we can plan and improve.

A lot of this information is already being used by the school to develop and improve what we are doing. We will use information to future plan and include these actions in our equality objectives.

Equality objective 1: To continually review the curriculum to ensure all pupils with a disability are able to fully access it.

Equality objective 2: To assess and improve provision in the physical environment in order to ensure access for all.

Equality objective 3: To improve delivery of information to pupils with a disability.
