Year 1: Artists

Welcome to the Artists class page!

Our class team are Miss O’Reilly and Mrs Wright.

The best thing about being in Year 1 is being part of an amazing team who are kind, helpful and resilient! We learn so much in a short space of time, and we can’t wait to show you what we can achieve.

We will be doing lots of Science work and investigations this term moving onto learning about our family history. The artists will be learning to recognise some types of trees, plants and flowers. We will be learning the names and functions of parts of plants and flowers and animals that live in woodland areas. On Tuesday we will spend part of our afternoon at Forest School where we will be learning how to tie different types of knots to help us to make a friendship bracelet. This will be our design technology unit and we will be learning lots of new skills and new vocabulary. Our English focus will be ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ so we are hoping to explore the characters, language and settings in a traditional tale. During our English lessons we will be learning to recite ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ with actions to help us to write our own version. In maths this term we are learning all about numbers. We will be recognising, counting, ordering and writing numbers. We will be learning to find one more and one less than a number and to add and subtract numbers using equipment.

Our timetable also includes daily phonics, maths fluency, English, guided reading, art, geography, history, RE, computing and PSHE. We always enjoy these topics and get fully engaged in the learning. I know the children will love coming home and telling you all about our new learning.
