Year 6: Edison

Welcome to the Edison class page!

Our teacher is Mr Brown and our teaching assistants are Mrs Wisdom and Mrs Young.

This is going to be another busy but exciting year in Y6 as we head into our final stretch at Benjies before starting ‘Big School’!

We have a very busy term ahead of us in Y6 but we are all glad to be back after the six week holiday (even Miss Wisdom). So far, during week one, our learning attitudes have been fantastic and we have made a brilliant start to life in Y6.

In English, we are reading ‘There’s A boy In The Girls’ Bathroom’ by Louis Sachar; we will be using this to help us write diary entries as well as holding our own debates to deal with some of the issues in the book. In guided reading sessions, we will be reading a very famous, classic novel called, ‘The Count Of Monte Cristo’.

Our Science this term is all about the human body; we are learning about our interior organs and the circulatory system. We will look at how exercise and a healthy diet have an impact on our health.

In DT this term, we will research three – course meals and work in groups to prepare and make a course each. We will learn some of the basic skills needed which we will be able to apply when cooking at home.

Our PE sessions this term are Invasion Games and Body Management. Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays so we will make sure we all have our kits in for those days.

In Geography, we will learn about the River Amazon including: where it is located; what impact it has on the countries it travels through; and we will also learn a lot of amazing facts about the river.

Throughout each subject, we will use a range of ICT skills to support our learning. We will also have Computing lessons which this term will focus on refining searches on the internet and E – Safety; this is a very important area of Computing and there will be a different area of E -Safety in each term during Y6.

As you see, there is a lot for us to fit in but we will make sure we have plenty of fun each day!
