Year 2/3: Pilot

Welcome to the Pilot's class page!

In Pilot class we love to learn, and our adults are always there to help us. There is Miss Truswell who is the class teacher, along with our teaching assistants Miss Robinson and Miss Nicholls.

We will be working hard this year and have some exciting pieces of learning to do. Over this year in geography we will be learning about the weather and seasons, the journey of food and all about our wonderful world. In history our units include the great fire of London, holidays in the past and local heroes. We can’t wait as we will also be learning about bonfire night which is one of our favourite events of the year!

We love to be creative in Pilot class so art and DT is also an important part of our year. In DT we will be covering woodcraft, rope, textiles and food. Hopefully we will have lots of things we can bring home to show you! We will also be completing lots of art work over the year and using lots of different medias and techniques to produce some great pieces of art.

Each term we have a new science unit. These cover materials, plants and animals and habitats. We will also get to apply our science knowledge to investigations and experiments which are completed for our scientific enquiry unit- this is always a favourite of our children!

Mrs Anderson will be teaching Pilot class on a Monday morning. The children will be learning music, PSHE, computing and RE.

Please remember that on the days we have PE and forest school to bring a kit in so we can get changed ready to complete our learning- it is very difficult to be great athletes when we aren’t in the correct clothes!

Reading is always an important part of our time in school and in Pilots we love to read! At the beginning of the year we will be doing some phonics to make sure we have remembered all of our knowledge from last year. We will then be moving on to practising reading with fluency and comprehending what we have read daily to ensure we are the best readers we can be! Don’t worry though if we still need a little bit of help to remember our sounds- Miss Nicholls will work with children daily to provide phonics intervention should it be needed.

I can wait for another wonderful year in Pilot class and to share our impressive learning with you. Keep an eye out on our school Twitter to see what we have been up to!
